Try to find companies that are active in The Netherlands as well as in the country you wish to work in. Creating a connection with local stakeholders is much easier and they might know the route. Checking LinedIn or get in touch with older or former students is also a wise thing to do.

There are several strategies you can use to enhance your skills, expand your network, and build your resume.

- Check platforms who offer opportunities to work on small projects.

- Check volunteer work in your field

- Try online platforms who offer courses with practical projects

- Many industries have local or global professional associations that offer workshops, mentorship, and networking events. This is a great way to meet professionals in your field and learn from them.

- Attend industry conferences, virtual events, or webinars

We always advise you to start the conversation with your employer. If they don't know that you have that feeling they are not going to create something for you. Sometimes the promotion is not there yet but there might be things to do to enlarge your experience and responsibilities. If not, reaching out to other potential employers might be the right thing to do.

Most employers have one moment. But that does not mean that you have to listen to that. If you have a good case (well substantiated) you can always create your own moment. The worst thing that can happen is that he/she will tell you to come back at "their moment". But at least they already know that you are coming for more. Also you can ask her/him what you should deliver to qualify for a raise. But most important: do not ask for more money just because you have worked there for another year. Show your progress and show initiative.

That is a problem. Best is to make it a bigger thing and show them that it really matters. And if they still don’t listen then you need to ask yourself the question if this is the employer you want to work for.

Do it in person!! Not via email. And make sure that you tell them how grateful you are for the experience, people etcetera. No one can get mental because of your ambition. At the end of the day it is your career and your own choice. Be positive and tell them that you will be a positive “company ambassador” for life
