RAW JOBS THAT ARE NOT BORING

We believe...

...that diverse young talent is the future of a strong Dutch creative industry. By inspiring, connecting, expanding perspectives, and breaking barriers.

To do all of the above, we want to give you 9 tips that might help you start in the industry.

1. Be present & show your face 🙋🏼‍♀️

Keep an eye on the socials of the companies you find interesting. They might host presentations and interactive sessions. Being present at these events will make them remember your face.

2. Don't be afraid to talk to people đź’¬

Whenever you find an opportunity to speak to someone who might be able to help you “get in”, take it. It can be as easy as walking to them when you see them or sending them a message on LinkedIn.

And be assertive. Tell them you’re looking for ways in. You’d be surprised how open they usually are for a conversation and to help you out!

3. The big boss is not the only way in 🥸

You might think that you need to speak to one of the biggest people in a company to get a job. You don’t. Talk to anyone, regardless of their position within the company, because they will also be able to help.

4. Post, post, post! đź“©

Share anything you make that might help you get noticed the way you want to. Share on your socials (Instagram and LinkedIn are good places to be found) and you’ll be surprised by the people who will try to connect with you.

5. Be authentic 🕺🏼

Okay, authenticity is such an overused word now. But we must mention it. Don’t try to be the expected persona of someone in the creative industry. The more you show your true self, the more you will attract the people and jobs that match who you are as a person.

6. Build a portfolio & gain experience ✨

Saying you’re made for that creative spot you truly want, is one thing. But proving that you really are, is another. Actions speak louder than words. And that’s why it’s really important you gain experience and work on your portfolio. You can participate in pitches, contests and for example work on fictional cases. This way you will be able to prove that you’re born to be in the advertising world, despite the fact that you don’t have any actual working experience.

7. Do your homework 🎯

It’s not necessary to have studied “a creative job” to get a job in an agency. Most agencies are looking for people who have determination, the right energy and moreover a passion for the creative industry. But when you’re not familiar with the industry, do your homework! Read about current topics, agencies and recently made creative work. What is your opinion and why? Know what’s going on in the industry and create your own vision.

8. Don’t be afraid of rejection 👋🏼

We’ve all been there; the dreaded rejection phone call, e-mail or letter. When this happens there are a few things to keep in mind to stay positive, optimistic and motivated. Starting with not taking it personally. Many reasons behind hiring decisions will not be made apparent to you. Secondly, do not carry interview baggage around with you. Approach every job opportunity with a fresh perspective. And lastly, finding a job spot that fits you and your skills is a process. Give yourself time and be patient.
